£50m Toon target suffers serious ‘knee injury’ – Summer move to Newcastle now a non-starter?

If the latest reports on Dominic Calvert-Lewin are true, he’s another player who won’t be arriving at St James’ Park this summer.

According to Football Insider, the Everton striker looks set to be missing for THREE months after suffering a serious knee injury in training.

They claim that scans have revealed ligament damage, saying he’s ‘torn his lateral collateral ligament’ and will be sidelined until November as a result.

This comes after the striker managed only 18 appearances last season due to a fractured toe and will almost certainly end our summer interest in the 25-year-old, if true.

Both The Telegraph and The Athletic have confirmed our interest in Calvert-Lewin over the past few months. It seems Everton’s valuation – of more than £50m – always meant a deal was unlikely, but this is another name we can scratch off the list, it seems, and a fresh blow for Frank Lampard just a few days before the new season kicks off.

  1. Feel for the lad coz he’s a good player & made a big impact for Everton at the end of the season.

Big this is what most NU fans were saying when we’ve been linked to him. Good player but injuries are a big risk – just as they are with Wilson 🤷🏼‍♂️.

Hope it’s not too serious for the lad but pleased it’s Evertons problem and not ours.

  2. Shame for the lad, but this is why I’m pleased we didn’t sign him, he is almost as prone to injury as Wilson.

We need a reliable striker and he was never going to be that.
