Another NUFC target suffers injury and Leicester release new James Maddison message – Video

Speaking to the press this afternoon, Brendan Rodgers has (once again) been discussing future of two Newcastle United targets James Maddison and Harvey Barnes.

He’s insisted that both – along with Wesley Fofana – are “NOT for sale”, as far as he’s concerned, insisting the club are not looking to sell their best players.

Rodgers accepts it would be “up to the club” if a big offer came in for any of the above, however it seems increasingly unlikely we’ll be upping our interest in Barnes.

Sky Sports have revealed that the winger has now been ruled out for a ‘few weeks’ because of a new knee injury, with this following the devastating news that Ricardo Pereira will be sidelined for SIX month due to a ruptured Achilles.

So, another Toon target who won’t be fit for the start of the new season, with this coming after Dominic Calvert-Lewin – a striker high on Eddie Howe’s radar – suffered a ligament injury set to keep him out for six weeks.

Back to Brendan Rodgers’ comments, it seemed to me that this “not for sale” stance quickly changed when asked what would happen if a big offer arrived. Ultimately, I get the feeling it’s well out of his control based on the financial situation they find themselves in, meaning a move is still possible IF we up our bid;
