Eddie Howe has confirmed that Elliot Anderson won’t be going anywhere this summer, insisting he has a “big part to play” over 2022/23 after taking his chance with both hands during pre-season.
Anderson has seen plenty of first-team action over the past month, including his home debut in the friendly against Atalanta.
Championship sides had been queuing up to sign him on loan, however, the boss appears to have made his mind up already – despite recently saying he wouldn’t make a decision until the final few days of the window.
Speaking to Andy Sixsmith on NUFC TV, here’s what Howe had to say when asked about the 19-year-olds immediate future:
“The biggest compliment I can pay to him is he has not looked out of place in amongst established Premier League players. He has more than held his own, in training and in the games.
“I think he did really well in the Atalanta game because it was a big test for him, big crowd, big occasion, and he played his normal game.
“There was no change from how he had been during pre-season, there was no shrinking under the challenge – there was almost a growing and an embracing of the challenge, so very, very pleased with him personally and he’ll have a big part to play this season for us.
“We’re not going to carry a huge squad in terms of numbers, so every player is vitally important.”
Great news for the lad. Hope he becomes a superstar for the Toon.
