Bookies release telling Newcastle United odds ahead of our opening game of 2022/23 season

I’m not a gambling man, but I thought it would be interesting to see how the bookies saw it heading into the new 2022/23 Premier League season.

Some feel success would be a top 10 finish, while others believe we should be pushing to qualify for Europe – and the bookmakers reckon we’ve got every chance of achieving the latter!

To my surprise, Sky Bet have us as the favourites to break the ‘big six’ this season, placing us at odds of just 2/1 to finish in the top six.

Despite spending £100m his summer, keeping their key players and finishing 6th (2020/21) and 7th (2021/22) over the past two years, West Ham are deemed LESS likely – at odds of 9/2 – to land a top six finish than Eddie Howe’s Mags.

That really does sum up the optimism around St James’ Park right now, with the bookies backing us to also finish above the likes of Aston Villa and Leicester.

Based on the latest set of odds, here’s how Sky Bet see the 2022/23 table panning out:

  1. Man City
  2. Liverpool
  3. Tottenham
  4. Chelsea
  5. Arsenal
  6. Man Utd
  7. Newcastle
  8. West Ham
  9. Aston Villa
  10. Leicester
  11. Brighton
  12. Crystal Palace
  13. Wolves
  14. Everton
  15. Brentford
  16. Southampton
  17. Leeds
  18. Nottingham Forest
  19. Fulham
  20. Bournemouth

At the back end of 2021, you’d have got odds of around 2/1 for us to go down. Now, you can make that bet based on a top six finish! Howe times have changed.

  1. I must admit I have us above utd in the mix with Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal with utd alongside west ham and villa. Trouble is the window is still wide open.
