Deal for £50m striker not dead yet and Toon face fresh competition for Lucas Paqueta – Report

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United haven’t given up in their pursuit of Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak.

Lee Ryder reports that the highly-rated Swede is ‘still under consideration’ at St James’ Park – although a deal will only be struck if the ‘price is right.’

The Telegraph stated last month that the La Liga side were demanding that we activated the player’s £76m release clause to make a deal happen, but it seems he could be available for significantly less.

Ryder states that, as of last night, sources close to Real Sociedad chiefs insisted that Isak wouldn’t be leaving unless someone offered of at least £50m. Newcastle haven’t walked away from the table, but it seems we’re pushing for a compromise – as we did in the build up to Sven Botman’s arrival.

Elsewhere, the same piece states that West Ham and Arsenal are also interested in Toon linked playmaker Lucas Paqueta.

The Chronicle insist that he IS a player the club like, but believe we would only pursue the Lyon star at the right price – especially when this wasn’t deemed a priority position earlier in the window.

That said, with Jonjo Shelvey out for half the season and James Maddison – another attacking midfielder who can play centrally or wide – appearing too expensive, it’s now ‘one to keep an eye on’ after the player’s agent refused to comment on yesterday’s reports linking Bruno’s best pal with a £33m move to Tyneside.
