In our never-ending search for a new right winger, Sassuolo’s Domenico Berardi could now be a realistic option for Newcastle United.
Speaking to NUFC Blog, Football Transfers correspondent Jacque Talbot has revealed that the Italian is available for around £25m over the final few weeks of the transfer window.
After being priced out of moves for Moussa Diaby, Jack Harrison and Anthony Gordon already, the prolific Serie A star may be well worth considering should we fail to up our bid for Leicester’s James Maddison.
It remains to be seen if Newcastle hold any serious interest in Berardi, but with 15 goals and 17 assists last season and sources in Italy suggesting Sassuolo could cash in, it could be a deal that appeals.
Here’s what Talbot told us about the winger who could tick plenty boxes on Tyneside:
“No suitable bids have arrived so far for Berardi, but sources in Italy believe Sassuolo could sell if an offer around the €30million (£25million) mark arrived.
“It’s not clear if he’s someone Newcastle like, but as an out and out right winger with pace, good movement and final product, I’d be surprised if he isn’t someone they’ve looked at.
“He has two years left on his current deal, so this could one of Sassuolo’s last chances to recoup a significant fee.
“His age may be an issue – he’s just turned 28 – yet some feel he’s earned a big move after proving himself in Serie A and impressing at EURO 2020.“
At 28, Eddie Howe may prefer a younger winger with age on their side, however Berardi may turn out to be half the price of Moussa Diaby and James Maddison, making it the sort of investment that could make sense in the short-term should we be interested.
That makes 869 players coming to Newcastle from recommendations by nobody’s !!
