Journalist claims NUFC are about to launch bid for Benfica star – Club prepared to sell for €30m

Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepulveda has revealed that Newcastle are showing serious interest in Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos, claiming a formal bid will be submitted ‘in the coming days’.

It is believed that the 21-year-old is currently valued at around €30m (£25m) – making him a potentially realistic target for Toon chiefs if that price point proves to be correct.

Last season, the Benfica academy bagged eight goals and four assists while playing just behind former Toon target Darwin Nunez and also scored the opener in our very own pre-season clash in Lisbon last month.

He’s netted an outstanding 14 goals in 18 appearances for Portugal’s U21s and, according to reports, has also been receiving interest from PSG, Wolves and Nottingham Forest.

Ramos may tick a few boxes as a young forward with plenty of potential, but I’d be surprised if £25m was all it took to sign the man being backed to fill the big shoes left by Liverpool’s new number nine, Darwin Nunez.
