Newcastle agree to sign 19-year-old talent after successful trial on Tyneside – Report

Newcastle have agreed a deal to sign former Celtic goalkeeper Jude Smith from East Fife, as reported by the Daily Record.

The 19-year-old made 24 appearances in the Scottish League One last season after leaving Celtic, where he came through the ranks.

He is set to become Newcastle’s fourth signing of the summer at U21 level following the arrivals of Galway defender Alex Murphy, Spurs full-back Jordan Hackett and Kilmarnock centre-back Charlie McArthur.

Smith had a trial with the Toon last month and appears to have impressed, previously catching the eye of scouts as one of the youngest No. 1s in British football at New Bayview. He also received interest from Stoke City but will be heading South to sign on Tyneside over the coming days, reports the Daily Record.

The fee for the young shot-stopper is said to be in the five-figures, and it shows Dan Ashworth’s intent to build for the future and not just the here and now.
