Sky Sports: Newcastle set to launch bid in excess of £25m for new attacking target

According to some ‘breaking news’ arriving from Sky Sports in the last few moments, Newcastle look set to launch a bid in excess of £25m for Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos.

This comes from their sources in Portugal, with journalist Pedro Sepulveda revealing last night that a formal offer was likely to be submitted in the ‘coming days.’

Ramos actually scored when Eddie Howe’s Mags met Benfica in a pre-season friendly last month, heading home the opening goal in a 3-2 win for the Lisbon-based side.

It remains to be seen how the Liga NOS giants will respond to this alleged bid, as many expected Ramos to replace the recently departed Darwin Nunez at the Estádio da Luz.

The 21-year-old has scored 14 times in 18 appearances for Portugal’s U21s and has bagged three goals and three assists in Benfica’s opening three games so far this season.

Here’s the latest from Sky Sports, who claim a £25m bid looks set to be submitted:

Here’s what Benfica manager Roger Schmidt had to say about Ramos’ future in a recent press conference:

“I am very happy to have him as a player and I think he is also happy at Benfica.

“He is an interesting player for other clubs, but Benfica has a lot of good players who are also interesting.

“At the moment he is here with us and it doesn’t worry me”, he said at the press conference.
