Surprise call-up from Eddie Howe followed by England goal for Toon teenager – One to watch?

16-year-old Mag Lewis Miley scored his first goal for England Under-17s against Finland, just four days after making his full international debut.

The attacking midfielder made his first appearance for the Young Lions on Saturday in a 3-0 defeat to Norway. Just two days later, Miley made his first start for his country in Monday’s 3-0 win against the Faroe Islands, before recording his first goal in a 2-1 win against the Fins earlier today.

The Durham-born teenager has been a part of Newcastle’s Academy since he was seven and was handed a surprise call-up by Eddie Howe for pre-season fixtures against Atalanta and Athletic Bilbao, being named on the bench in both games at St James’ Park.

Miley’s older brother Jamie plays in the midfield for our under-21 side and has been a regular starter for the under-18 side in recent years. He played in 23 of our 26 games in the u18 Premier League last year, but is yet to be called into action by the national team.

Of the previous pair of Geordie brothers to come through the academy, the Longstaffs, only Matty has stepped onto the pitch as an England player with two appearances for the under-20s.

One to watch over the coming years after an impressive few weeks for club and country?
