Sky Sports: Premier League rivals launch surprise £40m bid for Newcastle United target

Sky Sports have revealed that Chelsea have now made a bid of around £40million for Anthony Gordon – the Everton winger Newcastle attempted to sign for £35million just last month.

Chelsea, who have already spent close to £170million on reinforcements this window, are hoping to add to that tally with the purchase of the Liverpool-born forward who scored four goals in 35 appearances last season.

Upon our efforts to sign the 21-year-old, the Toffees were quick to make it clear that he is not for sale, and we soon moved on to other targets – although there has been suggestions over the past few days that we are considering a fresh move for the England U21 star.

With the London-based club eager to add to their attacking line, any move for Gordon could open the door for Christian Pulisic, Callum Hudson-Odoi or Hakim Ziyech to leave – two of which we’ve been linked with over the past week.

However, given the severe lack of goal threat on the blue side of Merseyside, it is unlikely that Everton will be willing to part with their talented youngster, particularly as Lampard is desperate to keep hold of him.
