Dan Ashworth enters talks with Chelsea as Newcastle eye two late deals - The Telegraph
According to The Telegraph, Dan Ashworth has been in discussions with 'senior figures' at Chelsea over potential moves for several Chelsea attackers.
Luke Edwards reveals that we are showing interest in Christian Pulisic, Conor Gallagher, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Armando Broja, asking to be 'informed immediately' if any of the above are allowed to leave.
Eddie Howe recently hinted that loan deals could become available to Newcastle late in the window and The Telegraph claim that Chelsea are now our main source of interest as we look to bring in a couple of new attackers.
It seems there is the potential for us to sign one on a permanent deal and one on loan - should they become available - as our remaining budget will not allow for two pricey permanent deals.
That said, even loan deals could come at a cost, as Edwards reveals that Pulisic and Hudson-Odoi both earn more than our top earner Kieran Trippier - who takes home over £100,000-per-week.
As a result, Chelsea would have to pay a portion of their wages if they were to arrive on temporary deals - something that may lessen the appeal of a season-long move to St James' Park.
The same piece states that we are weighing up a fresh bid for Watford's Joao Pedro and reveals that our latest £40m offer for James Maddison featured an upfront payment of just £20m - which may explain why Leicester were quick to rebuff our approach!
