Eddie Howe considering former Bournemouth man after senior departure at SJP – The Times

According to The Times’ Martin Hardy, Eddie Howe is ‘considering’ adding former Bournemouth goalkeeper Shwan Jalal to his coaching staff following the departure of experienced coach Simon Smith.

Jalal spent six years with the Cherries – five of them under Howe – where he made 171 appearances in total and won promotion from both League Two and League One.

The 39-year-old is currently at Stockport County and has previously worked at Rochdale after the Iraq-born stopper hung up his gloves in 2020.

With the departure of long-term goalkeeping coach Simon Smith, who worked at the club between 1999-2004 and 2015-22, it would make sense for Howe to fill the vacancy with someone he is familiar with and has a lot of trust in.

Jalal is still in the early stages of his coaching career but will bring a wealth of experience from the 475 games he has played in the lower divisions in England.

One to watch over the coming days, as the club look to bolster Howe’s backroom team following Simon Smith’s departure.
