Premier League table for 2022 – Fascinating results for Newcastle as telling stats emerge

A brilliant piece of research has emerged on social media this week, showing the Premier League table based on form in 2022.

Over the 20+ games played this calendar year, the table shows Newcastle United in fourth on 45 points, leaving us behind only Liverpool, Man City and Spurs – and the latter (42 points) have played two games more.

The following stats also became apparent when looking at the 2022 standings:

  • Only Liverpool (13) and Man City (14) have conceded less than goals Newcastle (20)
  • Only Liverpool (16), Man City (15) and Tottenham (14) have won more games than Newcastle (13)
  • Only Liverpool (2.52) and Man City (2.45) have a better points per game than Newcastle (2.00)

In addition, this points per game (PPG) of 2.00 means we’d end the season on a staggering 76 points should we maintain this form. It’s unrealistic that we keep this up, but this total would have you finishing third in the Premier League in SEVEN of the last eight seasons, highlighting what an impressive PPG rate we’ve maintained over the calendar year.

It’s also telling what we’ve mustered this many points despite scoring only 27 goals in our 21 games. To me, this highlights how important it is that we sign two quality attackers over the final few weeks of the window, as it feels unsustainable to keep this form going unless we begin to score more goals.
