Howe responds to Amazon offer, Darren Eales’ arrival, late outgoings and Man City test – Video

Eddie Howe gave a telling response in his press conference this morning when quizzed about a potential Amazon documentary at Newcastle United.

The Mail report that we’ve received an offer to be part of the latest ‘All or Nothing’ series, despite rejecting a host of similar offers from TV companies.

Based on his response today, it seems Howe isn’t keen to shine more media spotlight on the club, but does accept that we may have to be “more adaptable” based on the way modern football is going.

He also welcomed new CEO Darren Eales to the club ahead of his first Premier League outing at St James’ Park this Sunday, feeling someone of his “experience and knowledge” will help the club run more efficiently.

On outgoings, he seems reluctant to allow anyone else to leave for now, but hints that a few fringe men could leave in the final few days of the window if it seems they won’t get the “minutes they want” at Newcastle.

The boss also talked about the “ultimate test” we face this Sunday in the form of Man City, encouraging his players to deliver a big performance that gets the crowd up from the very first minute – feeling the atmosphere could be key to our hopes of getting a surprise result.

Here’s what Howe had to say on all of the above, starting with his response to a potential Amazon series:

Howe on Amazon’s offer:

“You’ve set me up here! (asking about Amazon rumours)

“I don’t know, it is a difficult one. Traditionally, everything that goes on behind the scenes has been private.

Now that seems to be changing with the various documentaries we’ve had, not just in football but in other sports, so we’re opening the door slightly to the day-to-day running of things.

“My thoughts would be to keep things away from the media spotlight because I think we’re in the spotlight enough and you want your work with the players to be on a one-to-one basis.

“But, with the way the game is going, we have to be adaptable.”

Howe on Darren Eales’ imminent arrival as CEO:

I’m very much looking forward to building a relationship with him.

“Someone of his experience and knowledge will only help us become more efficient in every way of working so I’d like to welcome him to the football club.”

Howe on further outgoings:

“I’d be reluctant to look into outgoings at this moment in time.

“Maybe in the last few days of the window we may turn our attention if there are players we feel aren’t going to get the minutes they want.

“As we sit here now, preparing for Man City, there is no news.”

Howe on Man City test:

“We would love a very good performance.

“This is the ultimate test.

“These games against City and Liverpool are the real barometer of our quality.

“We want to narrow that gap between us and the top teams in the division.”

“The results last season (0-4 at home and 0-5 away) were hard on us but I thought they were tighter than they look on paper.

“The home game, there were bits of our performance that were very good but you need a bit of luck and to be clinical and we probably weren’t that.”

Howe on importance of SJP atmosphere on Sunday:

“It (the atmosphere) is a must for us to get a result. But we (the players) need to create the kind of atmosphere that opposing teams don’t want to play in.

“I think we’ve done that unbelievably well. The supporters have backed us. Hopefully they enjoy what the team has given them.

“In games like this, very unique games, we’re going to need their support right from kick off.”
