Newcastle plan three signings in eight days as Eddie Howe adds midfielder to the list – Report

According to The Athletic, Newcastle are still trying to sign THREE more players before next Thursday’s 11pm deadline.

As revealed by Chris Waugh, the club are hoping to end the window with the arrival of a striker, winger AND midfielder, with two new additions deemed the ‘minimum.’

He reports that a ‘young, versatile forward’ is wanted to cover the injury prone Callum Wilson – and it seems like Alexander Isak is the man we’ll sign in that department, with the Real Sociedad star expected to sign on a club record deal.

A right-winger is also being targeted, with Christian Pulisic (Chelsea) and Jack Harrison (Leeds) still on Eddie Howe’s radar. European options have been explored, with one of those being Lyon’s Lucas Paqueta, but it’s thought Howe would prefer someone proven at Premier League level.

On that subject, the piece mentions that Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher is a player of ‘particular interest’, with us adding a midfielder to our wanted list after discovering Jonjo Shelvey will be missing for the first half of the season.

Time will tell if we manage to strengthen three key areas with just nine days left to do business, but it’s promising to hear we could be one of the most active Premier League clubs over the final week of the window.

Here’s a snippet from The Athletic’s latest piece on the Toon transfer front:

A young, versatile forward to provide cover for the often-injured Callum Wilson — who tweaked a hamstring against Manchester City at the weekend — and a winger are still being sought, while a midfielder has also been added to the wanted list over the past fortnight following news of Jonjo Shelvey’s three-month layoff with a hamstring problem.

Ideally, Newcastle will make a minimum of two more signings by the end of the window, but preferably three: a forward, a winger and a midfielder.

  1. It’s about time Newcastle did the sort business needed to seriously challenge for a Place in Europe, if this is at the cost of other clubs losing their best players then so be it! The current top 5 have been doing the same for years!

  2. Not so sure about EH preferring players with Premiere League experience?
Bruno, Botman and Isaac had none whatsoever three out of the top four costly signings.
