Newcastle United coach Daniel Hodges has been charged by the FA for ‘alleged improper behaviour’ during last week’s 2-1 defeat at Anfield.
Liverpool’s John Achterberg has also been charged after he used ‘abusive and/or insulting gestures’ towards the Newcastle bench after the Reds scored a 98th minute winner in that 2-1 defeat on Merseyside.
As for Hodges, he’s alleged to have thrown a water bottle into the Liverpool technical area during the closing stages of the match, sparking a touchline row between both benches after Fabio Carvalho’s goal.
Here’s the statement released by the FA, confirming both will have until this Thursday to respond to the charges:
“Coaches from Liverpool FC and Newcastle United FC have been charged with breaching FA Rule E3 during their Premier League fixture on Sunday 31 August 2022.
“It is alleged that the behaviour of John Achterberg and Daniel Hodges in the 98th minute of that game was improper, and that the Liverpool coach also used abusive and/or insulting gestures.
“John Achterberg and Daniel Hodges both have until Thursday 8 September 2022 to provide their respective responses.”
