Ex-Mag Andy Carroll is closing in on a move to Reading, according to reports on Monday morning.
As revealed by the Reading Chronicle, the Royals are close to re-signing the 33-year-old striker who was released by the club back in January.
Carroll joined Reading in November last year on a short-term deal, scoring two goals in eight appearances before joining Steve Bruce’s West Brom for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.
After seeing his contract at The Hawthorns come to an end over the summer, the free agent will now return to the Madejski Stadium – and could even feature in Wednesday’s clash with Sunderland.
The 6ft 4′ Geordie saw a move to Club Brugge collapse over the summer due to a failed medical and was last week linked to Wolves; who saw the striker as a potential alternative to Diego Costa should the Brazilian be denied a work permit (which has now been granted).
Reading currently sit third in the second tier after a superb start to the new season, so it’ll be interesting to see how he gets on alongside current Newcastle United loanee Jeff Hendrick.
