Loris Karius ‘delay’ now explained as Newcastle United make emergency move

A couple of updates have arrived on Loris Karius’ seemingly imminent move to St James’ Park.

As revealed by the Northern Echo, the player has agreed to join the club and Newcastle United have signed off on the finer details of the deal, however Toon chiefs felt it would be inappropriate to announce his arrival on Friday – or even over the weekend – after news of the Queen’s passing.

They report that this has simply delayed his official unveiling as a Newcastle United player, insisting that the move will go through at some stage this week.

Fabrizio Romano adds that Karius has completed a medical and even ‘signed the contract’ on offer, stating that an announcement may even arrive in a matter of ‘hours.’

The German stopper was released by Liverpool over the summer and is expected to sign a short-term deal on Tyneside, with the club forced to make an emergency move for another goalkeeper after Karl Darlow suffered an ankle ligament injury in training last week.

Speaking to CaughtOffside, here’s what Romano had to say on the move, insisting it’s a matter of time until it’s officially announced:

“Loris Karius to Newcastle should be announced in a matter of days, or maybe even hours – it’s done.

“Karius completed his medical and signed the contract. It was really fast as Loris was considered as best option and accepted immediately, so there were no other talks.”
