Newcastle make behind-the-scenes appointment as Eddie Howe bids to leave no stone unturned

Newcastle United have confirmed the appointment Andreas Kasper – an in-house nutritionist – as Eddie Howe bids to maximise player performance with his new and improved backroom staff.

Kasper joins with a wealth of experience following his seven years as England Rugby Union’s Performance Nutritionist, having also worked in a similar role at Chelsea, Fulham, Derby and Blackburn.

The appointment comes just five months after the club advertised for a first team performance nutritionist and will hope that Kasper’s arrival improves the physical conditioning of the squad.

Speaking about the vacancy a few months ago, Howe said: “We need to produce a higher level of everything right across the board for the players.

“We need to give them every tool that they need to produce their best performances on a consistent basis so whatever area of the club that is, whether it is analysis, food or sleep, we need to try and educate the players as best we can. You will only do that with the best staff.

“I don’t quite know what areas we will be looking to improve our product in but, certainly, that quest will never cease for me. It’s always about trying to help the players in any way that we can.”

Since the arrival of Howe, we’ve already seen a transformation in the fitness and performance of all of our players, but the arrival of Kasper could see us take that next step and become even better.

It may be a small change behind the scenes that could go unnoticed by most fans, but it’s these minor improvements that will ultimately result in a big change on the pitch and help us compete with the very best.
