Newcastle eye January double deal as club reignite interest in TWO summer targets – Report

Newcastle United will reignite their interest in James Maddison and Youri Tielemans in January, according to a new report from 90min.

Graeme Bailey writes that the Leicester City duo are not interesting in signing new deals at the King Power Stadium, leading Newcastle to believe that they could both be available at cut-price fees this winter.

He reports that we came close to matching Leicester’s £50m valuation for Maddison over the summer, while Eddie Howe is also a ‘big fan’ of Tielemans.

As the Belgian is out of contract at the end of the season, it’s thought the Foxes could reluctantly cash in for less than £20m in January, knowing he’d leave for nothing next summer if they failed to move him on.

Maddison is approaching the final 18 months of his deal and there’s ‘no sign of an agreement’ to extend his contract, meaning he too could be moved on – albeit for a much higher fee – before entering the final year of his deal.

We had two bids – one in the region of £45m – rejected for Maddison over the summer, while Tielemans was heavily linked with a late move to Tyneside over the final few days of the window.

  1. Bruno, Tielemans and Maddison would be some midfield. It would be a bit unfair on Joelinton if he presumably makes way in the first 11 for Tielemans, but we need the depth that those signings would bring.

  2. Leicester won’t sell both Tielemans and Maddison in January. It’s wishful thinking by Newcastle fans I’m afraid.
