According to The Mail, Newcastle triggered a £300,000 release clause in Garang Kuol’s contract to beat Barcelona to a deal for the Central Coast Mariners star.
It’s believed that we’ve been watching the 18-year-old for some time, but interest from the La Liga giants – along with Stuttgart – forced us to act swiftly and trigger the young man’s release clause.
The Bundesliga club launched a bid after already signing Kuol’s brother Alou last year, while Barcelona were proposing a two-year loan deal for the Aussie talent.
However, it seems we’ve sealed a deal, with the player due on Tyneside soon for a medical after agreeing personal terms with the club.
As a versatile forward, the Australian international can play on either wing or as a striker and has already bagged four goals and one assist in eight league appearances since making his debut for the Mariners back in April.
At just 18 years and nine days, Kuol also became the sixth youngest player to play for Australia after making his debut against New Zealand and will hope to cement his place at the World Cup.
Once he officially becomes a Newcastle United player in January ,the prospect is set to be immediately loaned to a club in Europe before being re-assessed next summer.
Unless he gets capped again by Australia in the WC.
Then he might qualify for a UK visa.
