According to The Athletic, this could be Chris Wood’s last season on Tyneside – despite the striker only arriving earlier this year.
Chief writer David Ornstein reveals that the club are already looking to replace the 30-year-old next year, with Eddie Howe keen to bring in a ‘young forward.’
With Alexander Isak signed on a club record deal, Callum Wilson penning a new two-year deal and Garang Kuol arriving from A-League side Central Coast Mariners, our options up top are looking healthy, but it seems we’re still eager to improve.
Wood helped us to survival last season and played his part in that superb run over the second half of the 2021/22 campaign, however he turns 31 in December and has fallen down the pecking order following Isak’s arrival.
We’d struggle to get anything close to the £25m paid should we look to move him on over the next few transfer windows, however there’ll still be plenty of interest in the big man – who’s bagged 52 goals in 178 Premier League appearances.
It remains to be seen who we’ll target next year, but it seems our transfer plans are starting to take shape, with a right winger, holding midfielder and young striker on our wanted list in 2023. #
