Eddie Howe has been speaking highly of Sven Botman during his pre-match press conference today, revealing how delighted he’s been with the big Dutchman.
The NUFC boss admits that, despite being aware of his ability on the ball, he’s been pleasantly “surprised” by his technique, believing he’s a player with “so much potential” and “all the tools” to be a star.
It was tough battle to land the 22-year-old, with AC Milan pushing hard to bring the centre-back to the San Siro, but Howe feels he’s now proving we we fought so hard to sign him and “stuck to our guns” all summer.
Howe has talked up his “huge” faith in the former Lille man, describing his ice cool nature in defensive situations as a “really valuable” trait in what is a fast-paced and “frantic” league.

“My faith in him is huge.
“We really fought to sign him and we stuck to our guns because he was the one we wanted.
“I see so much potential in his game. He’s very good on the ball but he’s surprised me with how good his technical delivery has been.”
“He’s very composed in what is a very frantic league and that is really valuable. Defensively he’s got all the tools.
“He needs to work and develop parts of his game like everyone else but I do feel like he’s got a huge platform to build & grow into the defender he’s going to be.”
