Who is Peter Silverstone? – NUFC’s latest recruit as new owners rebuild neglected department

Newcastle United made another big move behind the scenes yesterday, appointing Peter Silverstone as our new Chief Commercial Officer.

He would play a key role in boosting our commercial revenue – a department that was totally neglected by the previous owner – which could help our battle against FFP restrictions, but who is our latest recruit set to work alongside Darren Eales?

Working for Arsenal between 2015 and February 2022, Peter initially joined as a Business Development Director, but became a key member of the Gunners’ executive team in 2018 in the role of Commercial Director – and ultimately their Chief Commercial Officer.

He oversaw several successful commercial deals during his time in North London, including the onboarding and development of Arsenal’s Adidas partnership and the initial signing and extension of the club’s sleeve partnership with Visit Rwanda.

Silverstone was also responsible for overseeing the agreement with Amazon for Arsenal’s ‘All or Nothing’ documentary – and this already existing business relationship may be something to look out for in the future.

Following his tenure with Arsenal, the Edinburgh-born executive joined football media platform OneFootball as Senior Vice President of Global Development, and was responsible for their clubs, leagues, federations and players network and partnerships division.

The latest addition to the NUFC team, Peter is a logical acquisition from the owners as they look to maximise their global revenue and bring more readily available cash to spend in the transfer market. The first port-of-call for the new CCO is likely to be sourcing a new shirt sponsor, with the FUN88 deal expected to end next year.

Welcome to the club, Peter!
