Believe it or not, Newcastle United have just five Premier League games to play before the January transfer window opens.
The World Cup break will allow Eddie Howe, Dan Ashworth, Steve Nickson and the board to get their heads together and plan potential moves in the new year.
With that in mind, fan account @TalkofTyneside has this week asked supporters to name ONE signing they’d like to see the club pursue this winter, provoking some interesting responses.
As expected, James Maddison featured prominently, along with the likes of Leandro Trossard and Moussa Diaby, however a few holding midfielders were also mentioned; one of which being former Mag Mikel Merino.

Maddison all day for me, he’s the missing link and is what we desperately need. Has bags of goals and assists in him.
Mikel Merino. Bring the lad back
Trossard. Can play upfront or on the LW give maxi a bit of competition try and get the best out of him
Kante from Chelsea. Hear me out, he is out of favor at Chelsea and out if contract this summer. Although he is 31, he runs and runs all day. Covers the backline fantasically and would allow bruno/ joelinton/willock to break further forward.
Maddison. CM who can also play RW if called upon.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. 21 year old baller.
Sensible option is Trossard can play LW RW or 10 n will be in last 6months of contract so reasonable price.
Diaby for me, younger than Maddison. The lad looks incredible.
Mykhaylo Mudryk. Beast mode that kid.
James Maddison. Just adds that depth and extra creative spark that at times we have needed
Álvarez from Ajax.
Tielemans. Coming towards the end of his contract so should be reasonably priced.
Diaby. As much as I’d like Maddison, when ASM is out we lack a little quality on the left side.
Not someone we’re even linked with but Declan Rice. Solid number 6 with prem and international experience, and gives Bruno and Joelinton a lot more freedom to attack.
I would love Pedro still from Watford. Can play anywhere across the front 3.
