Agent reveals Newcastle’s interest in South American talent with £26m release clause

Vasco da Gama winger Eguinaldo is the latest Brazilian talent being watched by Newcastle United scouts.

Speaking on Canal do Pedrosa, the player’s agent has confirmed that we are one of several clubs keeping a close eye on the 18-year-old talent.

The teenager has burst onto the scene in Série B over the past few months, earning a call-up to Brazil’s U20 squad after scoring three times in just six starts for his club.

He is one of several South American wonderkids to be linked with a potential move to Tyneside, with recent reports suggesting we’ve made bids for Santos’ ngelo Gabriel and midfield sensation Andrey Santos; who plays alongside Eguinaldo at Vasco.

The Chronicle claim that a £26m release clause exists in Eguinaldo’s contract, with the player recently signing a five-year deal following his impressive first season in senior football.

Here’s what his agent had to say, confirming interest from St James’ Park:

“I also asked about Newcastle’s interest in the attacker. What he told me there is an observation, yes, from Newcastle, over Eguinaldo.

“But there is also the observation of several other clubs. These are very embryonic things, very early, and they are not even considered negotiations or anything very official.”
