Toon line up January moves for Premier League duo as Howe eyes quality over quantity – Report

Newcastle United are ready to up their interest in Brighton winger Leandro Trossard, according to fresh reports on Monday afternoon.

The Northern Echo that we are set to launch an inquiry about the Belgian international over the coming weeks and also hold ‘strong interest’ in Leicester City star James Maddison.

Both players are approaching the final 18 months of their current deals, creating a situation that gives us leverage over both selling clubs if discussions over extensions continue to stall.

The 27-year-old has been in outstanding form so far this season, following up a hat-trick against Liverpool with goals against Man City and Chelsea. He’s tied with Miguel Almiron on seven goals this season, with only Ivan Toney, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Harry Kane and Erling Haaland scoring more this term.

It’s said Eddie Howe is keen to ‘cherry-pick’ one or two quality players in January – no mass overhaul is expected – with the club eyeing quality over quantity and those who could be available at cut-price fees due to their contract situations.

Trossard and Maddison tick those boxes and would be brilliant additions to our attack this winter. Brighton and Leicester will put up a fight to keep their top scorers in a window that’s notoriously tough to do business, but it’s quite telling that neither player has signed new deals.
