EXCLUSIVE: Newcastle face fight to sign England international as Man Utd cause problems again

Newcastle United have been showing interest in Manchester United’s Luke Shaw, but the Red Devils’ reluctance to do business is continuing to cause problems.

We can exclusively reveal that Toon chiefs have been monitoring the player’s situation for some time, enquiring about his availability prior to Matt Targett’s permanent move to St James’ Park.

He is approaching the final six months of his contract at Old Trafford and is yet to enter talks over a new deal, although it’s understood Man Utd have an option to extend by a further year.

This is not a deal we’re expected to pursue in January, as the selling club remain incredibly reluctant to do business with a Newcastle side threatening to take their place in the top six. This was evident earlier this year when we were quoted an astronomical loan fee for Jesse Lingard.

With that in mind, Newcastle could wait until next summer – when the 27-year-old will have 12 months left on his contract – to negotiate a deal.

As revealed by Football Transfers’ Jacque Talbot, Leicester and Everton have also been showing interest in Shaw; who must decide whether to move on in 2023 or fight for his place under Erik ten Hag.
