‘Leaked’ England team to face Iran in today’s World Cup opener – One Mag set to start?

It looks like Kieran Trippier will start England’s World Cup opener against Iran today, with The Mail, The Telegraph and The Sun all leaking the 11 Gareth Southgate is expected to select for Monday’s 1pm kick off in Qatar.

With Pickford in goal, it looks like we will start with an experienced back four of Trippier, Maguire, Stones and Shaw behind a youthful midfield of Rice, Bellingham and Mount. As expected, Harry Kane will lead the line, however it’s thought Sterling and Saka will get the nod over Phil Foden.

Trippier is fully deserving of a start. Statistically, our vice-captain has proven to be one of the best defenders in the Premier League this season and has rightfully earned his place in the starting 11.

On the other hand, both Wilson and Pope may be disappointed not to start but it will come as no surprise to them, particularly as their competition, Harry Kane and Jordan Pickford, have been some of the first name’s on the team sheet in previous tournaments.

Hopefully later on in today’s game or in the tournament Wilson will be given his chance to represent his country on the biggest stage and show what he has to offer, a boyhood dream come true for our number nine.

Reported England team (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Trippier, Stones, Maguire, Shaw; Bellingham, Rice; Saka, Mount, Sterling; Kane.

  1. Well you can’t argue with statistics, can you!

Would have been nice if you had said what those statistics actually are, but hey, stats is stats.
