Newcastle reignite interest in long-term target ahead of the January transfer window – Report

According to Football Insider, Newcastle United have reignited their interest in Watford forward Joao Pedro, with a January bid in the pipeline.

After having multiple offers rejected in the summer, the report reveals that we’ve continued to follow the highly-rated 21-year-old this season and see him as a ‘top talent’ with the ability to become a Premier League star.

Prior to the signing of Alexander Isak, we had a series of bids rejected for the Brazilian. At one stage, it looked like the player was all set to sign at St James’ Park, but the Hornets turned down both of our bids – the second believed to be worth £25m including add-ons.

Pedro has impressed in the Championship with six goals and two assists in 17 games, with his versatility to play any position in a front three being key to Watford’s promotion push so far this season.

Despite the great form of Callum Wilson and the imminent return from injury for Isak after the World Cup, Newcastle are still said to have ‘concrete’ interest in the young prospect to improve our attacking threat.

With his contract at Vicarage Road lasting until 2025 – he signed a new deal just after our offers were rejected – we will certainly have to stump up the cash if we are serious in our bid to attain the exciting talent.

With Chris Wood’s long-term future on Tyneside in doubt, perhaps the club still see Pedro’s versatility and huge potential as something worth investing in?
