“Watch out for this lad” – Journalist claims Newcastle are keen on World Cup winger

According to new reports, Newcastle United’s recruitment team are keeping a close eye Ecuador winger Gonzalo Plata.

Journalist Dean Jones claims that Toon scouts are well aware of the 22-year-old and already rate him highly, suggesting he’s one to watch in Ecuador’s remaining group games against the Netherlands and Senegal.

The South American side kicked off the World Cup with a convincing 2-0 win over Qatar, which saw Plata play all 90 minutes against the tournament hosts.

Jones says right-sided attacker has “pace to burn”, “trickery” and is “ready to shine” in Qatar after impressing in La Liga with Real Valladolid.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones had this to say about Plata:

Tell your friends to watch out for this lad ahead of World Cup opening night – he’s got the potential to be a player we talk about at the top level for many years.

He’s 22 and ready to shine. He’s got pace to burn, he’ll mesmerise people with his trickery and he’s got a finish on him as well. Plata is one of those players you could watch for hours on end.

Currently Plata plays for Real Valladolid and Newcastle United rate him already but Brighton already have three Ecuadorians so might fancy their chances of adding another if things go well for him in Qatar.

A game-changer, a man who can produce something out of nothing – he is exactly what the World Cup is all about.
