Bournemouth set to announce managerial U-turn ahead of Newcastle clash – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph, Bournemouth – who will face Newcastle in the first fixture back after the World Cup break – are set to announce Gary O’Neil as their permanent manager.

The club were closing in on former Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa, but discussions with the Argentinian have now collapsed, meaning O’Neil should now be in the dugout when the two sides meet in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup on 21st December.

The Cherries have been without a manager since Scott Parker was sacked after a 9-0 defeat to Liverpool, leaving O’Neil to take over temporarily while the board searched for a new head coach.

Since the 39-year-old took over first-team duties, the newly promoted side have enjoyed some good form, with three wins, four draws and four defeats in their last 11 – including a 1-1 draw at St James’ Park back in September.

In all honesty, O’Neil staying may be good news, limiting the ‘new manager bounce’ at Bournemouth ahead of our Carabao Cup clash at St James’ Park.
