Newcastle ‘offered’ World Cup forward and familiar name linked with January move

It may be the World Cup break, but that hasn’t stopped a few transfer rumours emerging as we edge closer to the January transfer window.

Starting with Marcus Thuram, it’s claimed Newcastle United have been offered a chance to sign the versatile forward who featured in France’s 4-1 win over Australia on Tuesday.

After being linked with a potential move to Tyneside last week, journalist Dean Jones claims that he is someone under consideration at St James’ Park after being offered our way.

The Borussia Monchengladbach star is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning he could be available at a cut-price fee in January.

Elsewhere, Fenerbahce defender Attila Szalai has once again been linked with Newcastle United, as reports in Turkey claim we are one of three Premier League clubs tracking the Hungarian star.

Turkiye Gazetesi claim that ourselves, West Ham and Leicester are all keen on the 24-year-old, who is believed to have his heart set on a move to England this winter.

In truth, it seems unlikely that we sign another left-sided centre-back following moves for Dan Burn and Sven Botman in 2022, but with Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez both moving on, you never know.

As for Thuram, he’s 25, can play up top or out wide and has bagged 13 goals in 17 appearances so far this season, making his availability on a cut-price fee particularly appealing.
