Steve Bruce signing linked with surprise January exit as Premier League clubs show interest

Newcastle United winger Ryan Fraser is receiving interest from a handful of clubs in the Premier League and Championship, according to The Chronicle.

No clubs are named, but it’s believed all of the sides keeping an eye on the Scottish international are situated down south.

The 28-year-old has started just three games in all competitions this season, failing to feature in any of our last four Premier League fixtures against Chelsea, Southampton, Aston Villa and Spurs.

His last start came in September’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth; the club he left back in 2020 before signing at St James’ Park on a free transfer.

Whether it’s been injury issues or a lack of form, Fraser has never got going since arriving on Tyneside. Some hoped he would rekindle the electric form he once found under Howe on the south coast, yet he now finds himself behind the likes of Jacob Murphy in the pecking order.

Who knows, perhaps Bournemouth are keen on bringing the winger back to the Vitality Stadium? Elsewhere, other southern Premier League clubs like Southampton and Fulham could be showing interest.

Here’s what Howe had to say about the wide man’s lack of game time when speaking ahead of the World Cup break:

“This season’s been difficult, because of the performances of the players in the squad have really produced that competition for places.

“I think I always say I’d embrace that challenge, if I was Ryan, because that will get the best out of him. So it’s a real challenge for places, not just for Ryan, but the other wingers as well.”
