Italian media claim Newcastle look set to battle AC Milan for £7m bargain in January

According to reports in Italy, Newcastle could enter another transfer battle with AC Milan following the Sven Botman saga, with both clubs showing interest in a cut-price move for Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.

La Repubblica reveal that we are one of several Premier League clubs showing interest in the 24-year-old, who could sign a pre-contract agreement in January.

The midfielder will be out of contract in the summer and is therefore able to enter negotiations with foreign clubs; who may be able to strike a deal for as little as £7m.

Due to an ankle injury early on in the season, the Frenchman has only managed six appearances for the Ligue 1 side, but he was ever-present for Lyon in last year’s campaign, scoring six and assisting three in 36 games.

Tyneside could well be the perfect location for Aouar’s next move with his former teammate Bruno Guimaraes already thriving in the Premier League and Eddie Howe having proven to have a good track record at developing young midfield talent.

With the club searching for quality additions while working within FFP restrictions, Newcastle may struggle to find a better pound for pound signing in the next window; which is a notoriously difficult market to navigate through.
