Bruno Guimaraes sends message to Tite as NUFC star finally makes World Cup debut for Brazil

Bruno Guimaraes has finally made his first appearance at a World Cup, coming off the bench in Monday’s clash with Switzerland.

The Newcastle United midfielder came on at 0-0 in the 57th minute just as Brazil were struggling to break down the Swiss, however it didn’t take the 25-year-old long to make an impact as the tournament favourites ran out 1-0 winners in the end.

After failing to feature at all in last week’s victory over Serbia, many were shocked to see Man Utd’s Fred get the nod over Guimaraes on Thursday, yet the South Americans immediately looked better following Bruno’s introduction. Take note, Tite!

He played a part in what looked to be Brazil’s opener after resisting the press and finding Richarlison, only for Vinicius Junior’s goal to be chalked off. However, it was soon 1-0 as Casemiro fired home to send his side top of Group G and into the last 16.

The former Lyon man wasn’t at his brilliant best, but his pressing, ability to keep the ball under pressure and find forward passes helped the Samba boys take control of the game and win a game that looked likely to end in a 0-0 draw at one point.

Maybe now Tite will realise he should be starting Bruno – especially if Fred is his competition!

  1. Bit desperate there Olly for a bit of “Bruno-sucking-up”.
He was OK and nothing about his performance suggested that Tite got it wrong.

What does “He almost played a part in what looked to be Brazil’s opener ” actually mean?
    He almost played a part?
