Newcastle join race to sign Ajax star after impressing scouts at the World Cup – Report

According to 90min, Newcastle have joined the race to sign Ajax star Mohammed Kudus after scouts were left ‘impressed’ by his superb displays at the World Cup in Qatar.

The report states that we are one of several Premier League sides who’ve enquired about his availability, with Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool also monitoring his situation ahead of Ghana’s Group F decider against Uruguay on Friday.

The versatile attacker – who can out wide, up top or an attacking midfielder – has shone for club and country in 2022, scoring twice in Ghana’s crucial 3-2 win over South Korea.

Despite struggling to nail down a regular starting spot earlier in the season, the 22-year-old has also become a key player for Ajax, bagging an outstanding four goals and two assists in Champions League group games against Liverpool, Napoli and Rangers.

Kudus has scored 10 and assisted twice in 21 games across all competitions, justifying the Dutch side’s decision to reject a £15m from Everton over the summer. In fact, 90min now report that it could take upwards of £30m to land the Eredivisie talent.

There’s be no shortage of competition based on his form in Qatar, but his age, potential and ability to play as a number eight, out wide or up top could certainly appeal to Eddie Howe.

  1. I would have thought that if we have learned anything from our new owners, it would be that they don’t join “races” to buy anyone, shopping smart and under the radar.
I would be very surprised if we bought anyone from the World Cup.
