£15m release clause revealed as report tips Toon to make January move for World Cup talent

According to reports in Spain, Newcastle are interested in signing Mallorca and South Korea midfielder Kang-in Lee; who has a £15m release clause in his current contract.

This comes from MARCA, who claim that we are ‘the club most interested’ in signing the 21-year-old after Newcastle and a host of other Premier League clubs sent scouts to watch him in Mallorca’s 1-0 win over Atlético Madrid before the World Cup.

The attacking midfielder has proven to be very versatile for the La Liga side, scoring twice and assisting three across five different positions in 14 appearances.

Despite the fact he is yet to start for his country at the World Cup, the former Valencia talent has impressed coming off the bench, grabbing a brilliant assist (watch it below) just one minute after being subbed on in a 3-2 defeat to Ghana last week.

MARCA add that Mallorca are ‘starting to fear’ that they will receive many offers for their exciting talent in January, although a £15m release clause could easily be activated if buying clubs believe he’s the real deal.

It’s not the first time we’ve been linked with Lee, with us credited with an interest in each of the last two summer transfer windows. Here’s a compilation of his eye-catching cameo against Ghana:
