Ryan Fraser asks to leave Newcastle as club prepare for January window – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph, Ryan Fraser has asked to leave Newcastle United in January after growing frustrated at his lack of first-team minutes.

It seems the club won’t stand in his way either, as Luke Edwards reports that we’ll listen to offers for the 28-year-old next month, with Southampton and Brentford both showing interest.

The Scottish international has ‘lost his appetite’ to compete with the likes of Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron and will seek pastures new in 2023.

As for potential incomings, The Telegraph report that such outgoings could help the club manoeuvre their way through the January window, as we are not expected to splash the cash like we did this time last year.

It’s thought the club will dip into the market if the right player becomes available at the right price, but the addition of a few young players with the potential to become future stars on Tyneside – like Garang Kuol – seems more likely at this stage.

Back to Fraser, with three goals and six assists in 59 appearances at the club, he’s failed to show the sort of form that he often delivered during his time at Bournemouth. Injuries haven’t helped, but a January move away could be best for both parties if he’s unsettled and no longer part of Howe’s first-team plans.

  1. At least he has a little bit of dignity left, not one of our better “buys” or should I say cheapie under Ashley.

  2. Fraser is at best Championship material. Howe has done well to persuade him to leave and get him off the payroll.
