Eddie Howe’s wishlist revealed as Bundesliga star features in Toon transfer talks – The Athletic

As revealed by The Athletic, Eddie Howe has told the club he’d like to sign a midfielder, a young right-back and a versatile forward during a recent round transfer talks on Tyneside.

The same report states that Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram has been mentioned during recruitment meetings and is a long term target of ours, with the club aware that his contract situation – it expires at the end of the season – could see him leave on a cut-price deal in January.

Thuram is currently with France at the World Cup in Qatar, fresh from scoring an outstanding 13 goals in 17 appearances so far this season.

In terms of a young right-back, Harrison Ashby has been heavily linked after we had a summer bid rejected for the Scotland U21 international, but it’s believed he is one of several being watched in that position.

The Athletic add that we’ve also been monitoring the situation of Brazilian wonderkid Andrey Santos – who’s been impressing at Vasco de Gama – and fellow South American midfielder Maximo Perrone; the Velez Sarsfield star who is expected to seal a European move in 2023.

Chris Waugh reports that the ‘early expectation’ is that Newcastle will be ‘nowhere near as active’ as we’ve seen in the previous two windows, but it seems Eddie Howe is still pushing for a couple of fresh faces, with us particularly keen to bring in a few more future stars like Garang Kuol.

  1. It’s the Newcastle era, and there has been a revolution ever since the purchasing of the club from the Saudis. This was how man city started and they are finally at the top, the funny fact is Newcastle hasn’t done some massive spending during the transfer window and they are already terrorizing the EPL.
