‘Here we go’ – €20m deal confirmed by Fabrizio Romano as Newcastle miss out on January target

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Newcastle have missed out on Brazilian wonderkid Andrey Santos, revealing that Chelsea have secured a deal with Vasco de Gama worth around €20m.

Romano has also claimed that ‘personal terms have been agreed’ between the club and player, so both Chelsea and Vasco de Gama will now ‘prepare documents’ to finalise the move.

Santos has been a well known target for the Magpies for a number of months now, but with many other European giants in the hunt to sign the 18-year-old, it was always going to be a challenge.

The midfielder will become one of Graham Potter’s first signings as Blues boss as he once again utilises the South American market to find young and exciting talent for the future.

Newcastle will now be forced to look elsewhere for another young star with Eddie Howe still in the hunt for a new midfielder to bolster his squad depth.
