Sky Sports reveal surprise fee NUFC could receive as Nottingham Forest strike Chris Wood deal

According to Sky Sports, Nottingham Forest could pay £15m for Chris Wood at the end of his loan move at the City Ground.

The striker is en-route to the Midlands as we speak after the two clubs agreed an initial loan deal that includes an obligation to buy this summer.

So, not only will Newcastle receive a loan fee for the 31-year-old, we’ll recoup £15m for the New Zealand international should he trigger certain conditions of the loan agreement.

This could be based around appearances, goals or Nottingham Forest’s ability to stay up, however it feels like the sort of offer we couldn’t turn down and very smart business.

The Kiwi cost us £25m just 12 months ago – a fee that felt hugely inflated at the time – so we could recoup around £20m of that in a few months time when you consider the final transfer fee, loan fee and the amount saved through his wages; which are believed to be in excess of £60,000-per-week.

A good deal for all parties, although I’m sure Eddie Howe will be eager to sign a replacement having often talked up Wood’s professionalism, popularity within the group and ability to step in when needed as our third choice striker.
