According to Sky Sports News, Everton are all set to sack Frank Lampard – a move that could impact Newcastle’s ongoing interest in Anthony Gordon.
They report that his dismissal will be announced ‘at some point today’, revealing that a decision has already been made on the 44-year-old’s future after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at West Ham left them in the bottom three and 10 games without a win in all competitions.
Last week, both The Mail’s Craig Hope and The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards revealed that Newcastle were considering a fresh move for Gordon after reigniting their interest in the 21-year-old.
Howe issued a ‘no comment’ response to those links this morning, but a change in the dugout at Goodison Park would surely complicate a potential move to St James’ Park.
The winger had started just one of Everton’s last seven league games under Lampard. He was clearly out of favour, however, it seems unlikely they’d now sell one of their most valuable assets before appointing a new manager?
Everton are closing in on the signing of Villarreal star Arnaut Danjuma, but Lampard’s sacking could leave Newcastle’s pursuit of Gordon in limbo.
