Agent reveals lucky escape for Newcastle star as £16m clanger comes to light live on talkSPORT

Speaking live on talkSPORT today, agent Kia Joorabchian has revealed that Bruno Guimaraes was offered to Everton for £16m in 2020, but they ‘didn’t like him’.

Before signing for Lyon two years ago, the midfielder could’ve joined the Toffees from Brazilian side Athletico Paranaense. However, they opted to sign injury-prone Jean-Phillippe Gbamin instead for £25m.

The Ivorian, who still has another 18 months on his contract at Goodison Park, has made just six Premier League appearances across three seasons and is currently on loan at Trabzonspor.

In the long run, it worked out perfectly for Newcastle, but Bruno may have been a very different player had he made the move to England earlier. Base on the current mess at Goodison Park, he’ll be thanking his lucky stars they looked elsewhere!

Joorabchian also revealed that fellow Brazilians Diego Carlos – a former Toon target – and Eder Militao were also offered to the Merseyside club, but the Blues turned their nose up at an £11m deal for Carlos prior to him joining Sevilla, while Militao also swapped Sau Paulo for Real Madrid soon after.
