Anthony Gordon’s preferred move goes public as Newcastle launch bid & Chelsea up interest

As revealed by FootballTransfers, Anthony Gordon is eager to play under Eddie Howe and has made it known he’d prefer to join Newcastle over Chelsea.

It is believed that the 21-year-old is a fan of the city and an admirer of the club’s history, with fellow professionals also advising the winger to stay away from the ‘distractions’ London could bring.

Gordon was close to a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer, but the move never materialised as the Toffees turned down a host of huge bids.

As for the deal itself, FootballTransfers correspondent Jacque Talbot reports that we’ve lodged an opening bid worth £35m plus £15m in potential add-ons for the England U21 talent.

It’s believed the Blues are holding out for a fee closer to £60m for the local lad, although reports on Tuesday afternoon suggested Newcastle were confident a compromise could be reached between the two parties.

If a fee can be agreed, it seems Gordon could be Toon-bound – especially if he’s ready to leave Merseyside, reject London and sign for Eddie Howe’s Mags instead.

  1. I do like him as a player, yes sometimes we see frustration coming out leading to silly bookings. But that’s a problem I believe will disappear once he joins Newcastle.
