Big claims from Italy as Newcastle have ‘€5m loan bid’ with ‘€35m obligation to buy’ rejected

Newcastle have had a bid for Roma ‘s Nicolo Zaniolo rejected, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.it.

The bid is rumoured to be a €5million loan that included an obligation to buy for €35million if the player completed 75% of remaining season appearances, but it seems the Serie A giants had no interest in accepting these terms.

Tottenham and AC Milan have also been linked to the 23-year-old, with it unclear whether or not we will make a second bid in the final week of the window.

It remains to be seen if there’s any truth in these rumours emerging from Italy, but this isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with Zaniolo; whose versatility could appeal to Eddie Howe.

The 6ft 4′ attacking midfielder can play in a range of positions, operating out wide, in the middle and as a second striker during his time in Rome; where he’s bagged 24 goals and 18 assists in 128 appearances.

Roma boss Jose Mourinho said last week that Zaniolo’s wish is “to leave, but in the end (he) thinks he will stay”, which could just be a ploy to drive up the fee for the young Italian, but he said at the time there had been no offer.
