Newcastle cash in on 50% clause as Sky Sports claim former Mag is set to medical on Friday

When Dan Barlaser sealed a move to Rotherham in October 2020, it was revealed that Newcastle had inserted a 50% sell-on clause into contract upon his sale.

Almost two and a half years later, Sky Sports have revealed today that the 26-year-old Geordie is on the verge of sealing a £1.5m move to Middlesbrough.

With Newcastle’s resale clause in mind, it looks like the Toon will bank around £750,000 once his move to the Riverside is completed.

Barlaser will complete his medical on Teesside today and sign a long-term contract under new boss Michael Carrick; who has them pushing for promotion back to the Premier League after four wins in their last five Championship games.

The Gateshead-born midfielder spent 14 years on our books and was a regular in our U23 set up, but struggled to break in at first-team level during the Rafa Benitez and Steve Bruce eras.

Since departing in 2020, however, he’s proven himself at Championship level, leaving Rotherham fans gutted to see him leave midway through the season.
