Newcastle United announce surprise Friday night deal as Kieran Trippier signs – Official

Newcastle United have announced that Kieran Trippier has signed a new contract extension, keeping him on Tyneside until 2025.

The 32-year-old signed just over 12 months ago as one of the first incoming players under the new regime, and it’s safe to say that it was £12m well spent.

Trippier revealed that he is ‘absolutely delighted’ to be extending his stay here, showing gratitude to all the staff and fans at the club and claimed that ‘there is no place I’d rather be’.

Acting as captain in the absence of Jamaal Lascelles, the England international has shown real leadership and experience in this exciting season and is a key part of this squad.

This also comes as welcome news to head coach Eddie Howe who described his right-back as ‘outstanding both on and off the pitch’ adding he couldn’t praise him enough.

On the extension, Trippier said: “I’m absolutely delighted that I’ve extended my contract here. I’ve got a lot of thank yous to make to the manager, owners, fans and my teammates.

“When I first arrived here, they made me feel so welcome and I want to help the club achieve great things. It’s a positive moment for us players in the club and there’s no place I’d rather be.”

Newcastle United Head Coach, Eddie Howe, said: “It’s a fitting reward for the season he’s had. He’s been outstanding both on and off the pitch, showing real leadership at a difficult moment when he first arrived, and now he’s excelled in a team that’s doing well.

“I can’t praise him enough for everything he’s given the club.”

  1. It brilliant news. He’s such a big presence in the team now & even when he was out injured last season you felt he still had a positive influence on those who were playing.
It would be great if we could retain him on the coaching staff once he does eventually hang his boots up – good while off yet though hopefully.

However – could this have waited til Feb so all hands were at the pump sorting out new players in through January?!?!!
