Alan Shearer’s Anthony Gordon comments resurface after photo confirms £40m move from Everton

Following his move to Newcastle United, it’s interesting to look back on Alan Shearer’s previous comments on new recruit Anthony Gordon.

Based on his analysis on the Premier League’s Official Youtube channel last year, our former No 9 has praised the winger’s ‘passion’, ‘fearless attitude’ and ability to make things happen.

Shearer believes the 21-year-old is ‘not afraid to get stuck in’ and puts ‘plenty of crosses into the box’, so there are several reasons to be excited about this one, even if some feel we’ve overpaid at £40m.

It’s fair to say that this signing has split opinion amongst supporters, but Gordon will fit our high-pressing style of play and is very much an Eddie Howe type of player.

Here’s what Shearer had to say about the England U21 international last year:

“A young man that has been causing quite a bit of excitement is Anthony Gordon.

“Everton fans have really gotten behind the winger who has shown passion and plenty of ability in what has been a tough season for the Toffees.

“I’ve personally been impressed by his fearless attitude, he’s not afraid to get stuck in and he tries to make things happen going forward, putting plenty of crosses into the box.”
